CDW Supports the Save Local Business Act
On July 14, Representative Comer reintroduced the Save Local Business Act, which would protect small business owners and economic growth by clarifying the joint employer standard under the National Labor Relations Act and Fair Labor Standards Act. This legislation would establish that only direct and immediate control over workers’ terms and conditions of employment can trigger joint employer status. CDW and 72 employer organizations sent a letter to Congress urging their support for the legislation.
The following can be attributed to CDW Chair Kristen Swearingen:
“Under previous Democratic administrations, the NLRB and DOL have attempted to implement expansive joint employer standards under their respective statutes, despite these efforts threatening the economy and proven business models that have propelled the American Dream for millions of entrepreneurs. Their efforts put at risk nearly every business relationship across the economy and disrupted decades of established law.
“The Save Local Business Act will restore balance, clarity, and predictability to labor and employment law. It ensures the appropriate entities are at the bargaining table and held responsible for any violations committed against workers while shielding businesses from unwarranted liability for the employment decisions of another entity. This legislation will protect small business owners and allow future entrepreneurs to thrive. We strongly support this legislation and urge Congress to pass it.”
