CDW Urges Congress to Oppose the Radical PRO Act
On March 4, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace and 70 other employer organizations sent a letter to members of Congress urging they oppose the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which is scheduled to be reintroduced on March 5. The PRO Act includes dozens of radical provisions that would limit employees’ right to secret ballots, greatly diminish opportunities for those who operate or wish to operate a franchise business, and completely eliminate many pathways to self employment and opportunities for gig work.
The following can be attributed to CDW Chair Kristen Swearingen:
“Once again, Democrats on the Hill are introducing the PRO Act, despite the well-documented consequences the legislation would have, including trampling the rights of workers and employers alike. This bill would force workers into unions, strip workers of their right to a secret ballot in union representation elections, force workers to vote on unionization without all the facts, impose government control over private sector contracts, decimate opportunities for entrepreneurs, and jeopardize industrial stability. This legislation and the policies it contains have been routinely rejected by federal courts, the public, and Congress on a bipartisan basis. It is designed to tip the scales in favor of unions at the expense of workers, job creators, and the economy. Voters made it clear in November they do not support these radical policies, and we urge Congress to reject this legislation.”
