CDW: Nuclear Option Promises Additional Fallout
600+ Member Coalition Warns of NLRB Decisions Handled By Politically Picked Nominees
WASHINGTON, D.C. // NOVEMBER 21, 2013 // Today, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace issued the following statement on behalf of CDW chairman Geoffrey Burr in response to the decision by Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid invoking the “nuclear option” to change Senate rules as it pertains to nominees for key federal positions:
“Sen. Reid’s reckless decision to trigger the nuclear option will have fallout well beyond the current debate. He has discarded decades-old rules governing the Senate in the name of packing federal courts and other important federal government agencies with politically tinged nominees. Sen. Reid’s actions today represent a naked attempt to stack the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit with judges more incline to uphold the outrageous actions of President’s National Labor Relations Board and other agencies.
Sen. Reid’s political gambit also opens the door to bypassing bipartisan debate on legislation and jamming through on broadly unpopular legislative efforts that have previously been rejected, such as card check.”
