CDW: Time to Stop NLRB’s Supersized Assault on McDonald’s

National Labor Relations Board’s Latest Decision A Job and Franchise Killer

WASHINGTON, D.C. // JULY 29, 2014 // Today, the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, the 600-plus organization representing businesses, associations, and employees in every Congressional District, denounced the decision by the National Labor Relations Board’s general counsel to issue complaints against McDonald’s USA for the employment decisions of individually owned-and-operated franchised restaurants. The Board’s actions threaten to disrupt decades of established law that has allowed franchises to flourish, creating millions of jobs and allowing hundreds of thousands to achieve the American dream of owning their own small business.

CDW Chairman Geoffrey Burr said, “In a move to finally eradicate the last jobs available to millions of Americans, the administration’s handpicked cronies in the NLRB are again circumventing Congress and using inappropriate unilateral executive action to harm employers and employees.

“This is exactly the type of NLRB arrogance that led to a successful Supreme Court challenge to overturn illegal recess appointments. This latest move only serves to confuse the boundaries of franchisors and franchisees, which will ultimately threaten the ability to generate jobs and ensure world-class workforce training in crucial areas such as EEO, safety, and collective activity.”
