America To Reid: Don’t Nuke The Senate

CDW Launches Six-Figure Campaign To Block Senate Rules Change

WASHINGTON, D.C. // Today the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW), a nationwide coalition of more than 600 non-profits, associations, and other organizations, launched a campaign opposing Sen. Harry Reid’s “Nuclear Option” to blow up the Senate’s long-standing rules. If successful, Reid’s effort would permanently jeopardize a central function of the Senate and could pave the way for a multitude of harmful laws and regulations.

The initial six-figure investment will be used to launch a campaign called “Don’t Nuke the Senate,” a multi-pronged attack designed to educate constituents of key districts about the immediate danger threatening the democratic process. The campaign includes the launch of a new website, www.DontNukeTheSenate.com, print ads in beltway newspapers, and an expansive digital advertising campaign.

“Don’t Nuke the Senate” warns constituents and politicians alike about the fallout from what has been called, “Harry Reid’s Nuclear Option,” and there are plans for continued investment in the project, said CDW Chairman Geoffrey Burr.

“We are taking swift and decisive action to block the immediate threat from Sen. Reid’s ‘Nuclear Option,’ which would have detrimental fallout for supporters of just about every contested issue under consideration. If this is allowed to come to fruition, it will fundamentally change the legislative body and the political landscape forever. We plan to educate voters and make sure Senators know that it is in no one’s interest—not even their own political interests—to allow this dangerous and unprecedented power grab in the Senate,” Burr said.

The Coalition for a Democratic Workplace is a coalition of workers, employers, associations and organizations who are fighting to protect the right to a federally supervised private ballot when workers are deciding whether or not to join a union.
